Daylight Saving Time: Change Your Clocks and Smoke Detector Batteries

It’s that time of the year again. It’s Fall and it’s Daylight Saving Time.  This means our clocks can be turned back 1 hour on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at 2:00 am.  Hopefully, most of us will be sleeping soundly in bed at that time.  Like a majority of other people, you can change your clocks before you go to bed unless you have a smart device that automatically changes the time for DST.

After you change the time on your clocks, we advise that you change the batteries not only in your clocks and watches, but also in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.  This ensures the batteries are fresh and gives you the opportunity to test the devices to make sure they function properly should your house catch on fire. This is especially important during the cold, Winter months when homes are being heated by wood stoves, propane, heating oil, kerosene, or other flammable sources.

If you have smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors connected to your alarm system, it will alert you when the batteries are low and need to be changed. If you have stand-alone smoke detectors and are not certain how to change the batteries, contact CT Security at 800-976-9248 and we will be glad to help you.
